Boise in March
Good time to visit
March is transition month incarnate - unpredictable weather keeps most tourists away. But locals emerge from winter hibernation, giving the city more energy than the previous months.
Weather
March teases you with spring weather one day, then dumps snow the next. Temperatures swing wildly - you might hit 15°C one afternoon, then wake up to frost. Rain becomes more common than snow by month's end, and the famous Boise wind picks up significantly.

All Months
May through October gives you the best of Boise's outdoor scene. Summer temperatures hit the mid-80s, perfect for floating the Boise River or hiking in the Foothills. But here's what locals know: September and early October are magic. Crowds thin out, temperatures drop to the comfortable 70s, and fall colors light up the cottonwoods along the river.
Winter brings snow to the mountains but not much to the city itself. Boise sits in a high desert, so you get cold, clear days perfect for exploring downtown or hitting up Bogus Basin ski area, just 16 miles from downtown. Hotel rates drop significantly December through March.
Avoid late July and August if you don't handle heat well. The high desert sun is intense, and afternoon temperatures can push into the 90s. Spring comes early here — by April you're seeing wildflowers in the Foothills and comfortable hiking weather returns.
