Bondi Beach in January
Great time to visit
January is one of the best months to visit Bondi Beach.
All Months
December through April brings perfect beach weather. Temperatures hover around 25°C, the water warms up, and the surf pumps consistently. But so do the crowds. Christmas to New Year's sees Campbell Parade packed tighter than a sardine can.
March and April offer the sweet spot — still warm, fewer tourists, and the surf schools aren't completely booked out. Water temperature peaks around 22°C in March.
Winter (June to August) might seem crazy for a beach destination, but hear me out. The weather stays mild around 18°C, perfect for coastal walks. The surf gets bigger and more powerful — serious surfers prefer winter swells. Plus, you'll actually find parking.
Avoid January if you hate crowds. School holidays bring families from across Australia, and the beach resembles a human carpet. The Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in October draws massive crowds too, but the art installations make it worthwhile.
Early mornings year-round offer the best experience. Hit the beach by 7am for smaller crowds, better waves, and that golden light Instagram loves.
