Cape May in March
Good time to visit
March is Cape May's awkward teenager phase - not quite winter, definitely not spring. Perfect for patient travelers who want low prices and don't mind indoor activities when the weather inevitably disappoints.
Weather
March teases with warm afternoons in the 60s before plunging back to winter reality. The ocean hasn't warmed up yet, so beach days are still fantasy. Wind remains brutal - those Victorian porches weren't designed for March gusts off the Atlantic.

All Months
May through September gives you the full Cape May experience. Beach weather arrives by late May when ocean temperatures hit the mid-60s. June brings perfect weather without peak crowds — hotel rates stay reasonable and restaurants don't require reservations weeks ahead.
July and August mean peak season. Beaches pack with families, B&Bs book solid, and traffic clogs Beach Avenue on weekends. But the town comes alive with outdoor concerts, Victorian Week celebrations, and perfect swimming weather.
September is the sweet spot. Ocean temperatures peak in the low 70s, crowds thin after Labor Day, and those famous Cape May sunsets get more dramatic as autumn approaches. Many consider it the best month.
Winter transforms Cape May into a romantic retreat. Many B&Bs offer fireplace packages and horse-drawn carriage rides through snow-dusted streets. But half the restaurants close and beach activities disappear.
