April through May and September through October offer the sweet spot. Spring brings wildflowers and comfortable hiking weather — daytime temps hover around 70°F, perfect for longer trails. The orchards bloom in late April, turning Fruita into a pink and white wonderland. Fall delivers crisp mornings and warm afternoons, plus harvest season in the orchards. You can pick apples, pears, and cherries right off the trees for a small fee. Summer gets hot — we're talking 90°F+ by noon. But early morning hikes work fine, and the long daylight hours mean more time to explore. Winter brings snow to higher elevations and closes some backcountry roads, but the main scenic drive stays open. Crowds thin out completely, and the red rocks look stunning against fresh snow. Just pack warm clothes and check road conditions before heading to remote trailheads.
