Central Arkansas in September

Great time to visit

September is one of the best months to visit Central Arkansas.

All Months

Spring and fall are magic here — wildflowers bloom along hiking trails in April and May, while October brings colors that rival New England at half the cost. Summer gets sticky, but the lakes provide relief and the hot springs feel less oppressive when it's 90 degrees outside. Winter is actually underrated: fewer crowds, cheaper lodging, and those thermal baths feel incredible when it's 40 degrees out. Avoid July 4th weekend unless you enjoy traffic jams and fully booked campgrounds. March through May offers the best diamond hunting at Crater of Diamonds State Park — winter rains wash away topsoil and expose more gems. November through February means you'll have Hot Springs National Park practically to yourself, though some lake activities shut down.
