Central Indiana in September

Great time to visit

September is one of the best months to visit Central Indiana.

All Months

May brings the Indianapolis 500, which means the entire region buzzes with racing fever and hotel prices triple. If you want the Indy 500 experience, book accommodations six months ahead. Fall hits differently here — September through October delivers perfect weather for covered bridge tours and corn mazes. The leaves peak around mid-October in Parke County. Spring works well too, with April and May offering mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer gets hot and humid, but that's prime county fair season. Winter? Look, it's cold and gray, but you'll have attractions mostly to yourself and hotel rates drop significantly. Just pack layers and don't expect much outdoor activity between December and February.
