China in July
Not the best time
July isn't ideal for China. Consider a different month.
All Months
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer the best weather across most of China. Temperatures stay comfortable, and the infamous pollution levels drop in many cities.
Avoid the three major holiday periods: Chinese New Year (late January/February), Golden Week in October, and Labor Day in early May. Domestic tourism explodes, prices double, and popular sites become human traffic jams.
Summer brings intense heat and humidity to southern cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou. Beijing gets hot but stays drier. This is also typhoon season for coastal areas.
Winter can be brutal in northern China. Beijing temperatures drop to -10°C, and the pollution often worsens due to heating systems. But winter also means fewer crowds at major attractions.
Regional variations matter enormously. Yunnan province stays pleasant year-round. Tibet is only accessible to individual travelers during certain periods and requires special permits.
Cherry blossoms bloom in Beijing and Shanghai during April, creating Instagram-worthy scenes in parks like Zhongshan and Yuyuan Garden.
