May can be excellent if you don't mind slightly higher humidity. Hotel rates drop significantly, and the flamingo colonies are most active as breeding season begins.
June through October brings hurricane season and oppressive humidity. But here's the secret: early morning and late afternoon are still magical, and you'll have beaches almost entirely to yourself. Just be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms and potential flight delays.
Avoid September and October entirely — these are the peak hurricane months when many hotels close for renovations.
