Dalanzadgad in July
Great time to visit
July brings peak summer heat and peak tourist crowds to match. The Naadam festivities are incredible but you'll pay premium prices and fight for accommodation.
Weather
July cranks up the heat with scorching desert days that'll remind you why locals take afternoon breaks. Nights stay pleasantly warm for the first time all year. Brief but intense thunderstorms can roll through, creating dramatic lightning displays over the desert.

All Months
May through September offers your best shot at decent weather, but even then, pack layers. Desert temperatures swing wildly - 80°F days can drop to 40°F nights.
July and August bring peak season crowds (relatively speaking - you might see 20 other tourists instead of five). But these months also offer the most reliable weather and longest daylight hours for desert exploration.
May and September provide sweet spots: fewer visitors, mild temperatures, and dramatic skies. September particularly shines with clear days perfect for photography.
Avoid October through April unless you enjoy sub-zero temperatures and howling winds. Winter temperatures regularly hit -20°F, and most ger camps close entirely.
Here's what nobody tells you: dust storms can hit any month. When they do, visibility drops to zero and fine sand infiltrates everything. Check weather forecasts and have backup indoor plans.
