Eugene in February

Not the best time

February offers slightly better weather than January but still plenty of rain. The University of Oregon brings some energy, but outdoor activities remain challenging.

Weather

February continues the wet season but with slightly longer daylight hours. Rain comes in waves - you'll get a few sunny days mixed with heavy downpours. Mornings are often foggy along the Willamette River.

February Tips

  • Visit Saturday Market when weather permits - it runs year-round but vendors are fewer in winter
  • Spencer Butte trail gets muddy and slippery, bring hiking boots with good grip
  • Coffee shops like Coffee Plant Roaster become essential warm-up spots

All Months

May through September offers the best weather, with July and August being peak outdoor season. Temperatures hit the mid-80s, and you might go weeks without rain. But this is also when University of Oregon football dominates everything. Hotel prices triple during home games, and downtown gets packed with tailgaters. Late spring, especially May, might be the sweet spot. The campus is gorgeous with cherry blossoms, students are still around for energy, but you avoid the football crowds. Temperatures sit in the comfortable 70s. Winter brings rain – lots of it. January averages 15 rainy days, and the sun disappears for weeks. But hotel rates drop by half, and the cozy coffee shop culture really shines. Plus, you're only 90 minutes from ski slopes at Willamette Pass if you need mountain time.
