October through March brings dry weather and clear mountain views. January and February offer the best conditions — sunny days around 23°C (73°F) and cool nights at 8°C (46°F). The rainy season from June to September turns roads muddy and obscures mountain vistas. But fewer tourists visit during rains, and accommodation prices drop 30-40%. Timkat (Ethiopian Orthodox Epiphany) in January transforms the city with colorful processions and traditional ceremonies. Book ahead during this festival as hotels fill up. March sees temperatures rising but remains comfortable for walking around the castle complex.
