All Months
April through May and September through October offer the sweet spot — mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and perfect hiking weather. Daytime temps hover around 60-70°F, dropping to the 30s at night. Summer brings massive crowds and temperatures that can hit 80°F on the rim, though it's still pleasant compared to the desert below. Winter transforms the village into a snow-covered wonderland, but some facilities close and weather can be unpredictable. January through March see the fewest visitors, which means shorter lines but also limited services. The shoulder seasons also offer better wildlife viewing — elk are more active in cooler weather and often wander through the village in early morning. If you're planning to hike into the canyon, avoid summer unless you're an experienced desert hiker. The village elevation of 7,000 feet means weather can change quickly year-round, so pack layers regardless of season.
