Summer brings outdoor concerts to Rosa Parks Circle and perfect weather for brewery patios. Frederik Meijer Gardens' sculpture park shines in warm weather. Winter isn't terrible if you don't mind cold — many attractions stay open and hotel rates drop 30%.
Avoid major Michigan State or University of Michigan game weekends unless you're into that scene. The city fills with rowdy fans and everything gets more expensive.
