Winter (December-February) gets surprisingly cold, with temperatures dropping to 50°F and constant drizzle. The bay turns moody and dramatic, but you'll spend most boat trips huddled inside. Some operators reduce schedules or cancel altogether. Chinese New Year (late January/early February) brings massive crowds from across the border. Hotel prices triple and boat tours book solid. Vietnamese holidays like National Day (September 2) create similar chaos. Book accommodations 2-3 months ahead for peak season (March-May, September-November). Last-minute deals exist in summer and winter, but you're gambling with weather.
