Great time to visit

September Tips

  • Pack warmer layers for increasingly cool evenings
  • Excellent time for photography with autumn light and colors
  • Accommodation prices drop but book ahead as many places reduce capacity

All Months

June through September offers the driest weather, though 'dry' is relative – this is a rainforest island. July and August see the warmest temperatures, reaching 18°C on good days, but also the most tourists and highest accommodation prices. Early June brings incredible wildflowers and fewer crowds, but ferry schedules are limited. September offers the best of both worlds – still warm enough for kayaking, salmon are running thick, and the fall colors in the old-growth forests are spectacular. Winter visits require serious planning. Ferry service drops to once weekly, many businesses close, and storms can strand you for days. But if you can handle the isolation, you'll have the islands almost entirely to yourself, and the storm-watching is world-class.
