February Tips

  • Monitor weather forecasts closely for cyclone activity
  • Book flights with flexible cancellation policies
  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen - you'll reapply constantly in this humidity

All Months

April through October delivers the sweet spot — dry season with comfortable temperatures averaging 23-27°C. The trade winds keep humidity bearable, and rainfall drops to almost nothing. This is peak season though, so expect resort rates to jump 30-50% and book restaurants well ahead. May and September offer the best compromise between weather and crowds. You still get those perfect sailing conditions with 15-20 knot trade winds, but school holidays are over so the island feels less like a theme park. Water temperature sits around 24°C — perfect for snorkeling without a wetsuit. Stinger season runs November through March, when box jellyfish and irukandji make swimming risky at some beaches. The resorts maintain stinger nets at Catseye Beach, but outer reef trips often get cancelled due to weather. Cyclone season peaks January-March, though direct hits on Hamilton Island are rare. Hotel rates drop significantly, but you're gambling with your weather.
