Inle Lake in April

Good time to visit

The heat starts biting, but Water Festival celebrations make up for the discomfort. Crowds thin out and prices drop, though you'll be dodging both rain showers and water guns.

Weather

April cranks up the heat with daily highs hitting 30°C and overnight lows of 15°C. The occasional thunderstorm provides relief, but humidity starts becoming noticeable. Pre-monsoon showers begin appearing.

April Tips

  • Water Festival means everything shuts down for 4-5 days - plan accordingly
  • Afternoon activities become uncomfortable - stick to early morning and evening
  • Prices drop as peak season ends

All Months

October through March is prime time. The weather is cool and dry, perfect for long boat rides. November and December are ideal — clear skies, comfortable temperatures around 25°C, and the floating gardens are lush from recent rains. Avoid April and May unless you enjoy sweltering heat. Temperatures hit 35°C and the lake level drops, making some areas inaccessible. The monsoon season from June to September brings heavy rains and choppy waters that cancel boat trips. Here's insider knowledge: visit in late February or early March for the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival. Golden Buddha statues travel between villages on ornate boats, and the whole lake comes alive with celebrations. But book accommodation months ahead — this is peak season. Early morning (6-8 AM) offers the best light for photography and the calmest waters. Most tourists don't start until 9 AM, so you'll have those iconic fishermen shots to yourself.
