Jotunheimen National Park in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Jotunheimen National Park.
All Months
July and August offer the most reliable weather and longest daylight hours - we're talking nearly 20 hours of usable light in peak summer. But here's the catch: everyone else knows this too. Besseggen Ridge can feel like a highway on sunny July weekends. June brings wildflowers and fewer crowds, but snow lingers on high passes and some huts remain closed. September delivers stunning autumn colors and crisp, clear days, though temperatures drop fast after sunset and weather becomes more unpredictable. Early October can work for valley hikes, but expect snow above 1,500 meters. Winter transforms the park into a cross-country skiing paradise, but that's a different adventure entirely. For the best balance of weather and solitude, target mid-June or early September. The midnight sun disappears by late August, but you'll still have light until 10 PM in September.
