Kampala in March
Not the best time
The rains arrive with a vengeance and suddenly those cheap hotel rates make sense. You can still have a great time, but you'll need patience and good rain gear.
Weather
March marks the start of the first rainy season and things get messy fast. Heavy downpours hit most afternoons with increasing humidity making everything feel sticky. You'll see 12-15 rainy days with some serious flooding in low-lying areas.

All Months
Kampala's weather stays pretty consistent year-round – warm days, cool nights, and afternoon thunderstorms that clear quickly. The dry seasons from December through February and June through August offer the most reliable weather for exploring on foot. But here's what guidebooks won't tell you: the rainy seasons bring the city to life. Markets overflow with fresh produce, the seven hills turn impossibly green, and hotel prices drop 30-40%. Just pack a decent rain jacket and waterproof shoes. The roads turn into rivers during heavy downpours. Avoid March through May if you're planning day trips to national parks – many roads become impassable, and wildlife viewing suffers. December brings the best weather but also the highest prices and biggest crowds around New Year's. For the sweet spot of good weather and reasonable prices, aim for late June through August.
