Kotor in February

Not the best time

February offers the same quiet charm as January with marginally better weather and a few more open businesses. Still not ideal unless you're specifically seeking an off-season experience with dramatic winter light.

Weather

February stays cold and wet with slightly longer days than January. Rain falls about half the month, often mixing with sleet in the early morning hours. The famous Bura wind picks up strength, creating dramatic clouds over Lovcen Mountain but making waterfront walks uncomfortable.

February Tips

  • February is the last month before things start reopening - many seasonal businesses remain closed
  • Bring layers including a windbreaker for those sudden Bura gusts
  • Perfect time to explore museums and covered markets without crowds

All Months

May through October gives you the best weather, but timing matters. July and August bring cruise ship crowds that can triple the old town's population in a single morning. Temperatures hit 30°C, and finding a restaurant table after 7 PM becomes a challenge. Shoulder seasons work better. May and September offer warm days (around 25°C) with fewer crowds and lower prices. Hotels drop rates by 30-40%, and you can actually enjoy those Instagram-famous spots without fighting for photo space. October surprises people — still warm enough for swimming, autumn light makes the bay look magical, and restaurant terraces stay busy until late evening. Winter closes many hotels and restaurants, but if you don't mind limited options, January temperatures rarely drop below 10°C and the mountains sometimes get snow caps that look incredible against the blue water.
