All Months
Summer brings the crowds but also the best weather. July and August see daytime temps in the 80s with cool nights perfect for sleeping. The lake warms up enough for swimming - though 'warm' means 65 degrees even in August. Beach season runs June through September.
Winter transforms the area completely. Heavenly typically opens in mid-November and runs through April. The best snow usually falls January through March. Hotel rates drop significantly except during holidays and big ski weekends.
Shoulder seasons offer the best deals. May brings wildflowers and fewer crowds, though some high-altitude trails stay snowy. October delivers fall colors and crisp hiking weather before the ski season starts.
Avoid July 4th and Labor Day unless you book months ahead. Summer weekends see traffic jams on Highway 50 that can add hours to your drive. Weekdays in summer offer better deals and smaller crowds.
