All Months
March through May brings clear mountain views and blooming rhododendrons, but book accommodation early for Golden Week in early May. September to November offers the best weather - warm days, cool nights, and the clearest views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Avoid July and August when monsoon rains turn cobblestones slippery and clouds hide the mountains. December through February brings freezing nights and occasional snow, but also the smallest crowds and cheapest hotel rates. The Torch Festival in late July fills the streets with Naxi celebrations, but expect premium prices and fully booked guesthouses.
