Lika-Senj in February

Not the best time

February isn't ideal for Lika-Senj. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through September offers the best weather, but each month brings different advantages. May means fewer crowds and wildflowers blooming throughout the mountains. The waterfalls run strongest from snowmelt, creating that postcard-perfect cascade effect at Plitvice. June and July are peak season for good reason. Weather is reliable, all hiking trails are accessible, and daylight stretches until 8 PM. But expect crowds at Plitvice - arrive early morning or late afternoon for better photos and fewer people. August can get surprisingly busy, especially around Plitvice Lakes. Temperatures reach the mid-20s Celsius (mid-70s F), perfect for hiking but warm enough that you'll appreciate the cool mist from waterfalls. Book accommodation well in advance. September is the sweet spot. Crowds thin out after kids return to school, but weather remains excellent. Fall colors start appearing in the forests, creating incredible photo opportunities. Restaurant terraces stay open, and you can still swim in some of the clearer lakes. Winter transforms the region completely. Plitvice's waterfalls freeze into ice sculptures, and the park takes on an otherworldly quality. But many accommodations close, and weather can be harsh. Only consider winter visits if you're prepared for serious cold and limited services.
