All Months
October through March offers the best weather in Lumbini. Temperatures stay comfortable (15-25°C), rainfall is minimal, and the air is clearest for photography. December and January can get chilly at night, so pack layers.
Avoid April through September if possible. The monsoon season (June-September) brings heavy rains that can flood the Sacred Garden paths. April and May are scorching hot — temperatures hit 40°C regularly, making outdoor exploration miserable.
Buddha Jayanti (Buddha's birthday) in April or May draws huge crowds of pilgrims. The atmosphere is incredible, but accommodation fills up and prices spike. Book months ahead if you want to experience this.
Early morning visits to Maya Devi Temple are magical year-round. The site opens at 4:30am, and watching sunrise over Buddha's birthplace with just a handful of monks around creates a profound sense of peace.
