The winter months see fewer pilgrims too, giving you more space to contemplate. Ramadan transforms the entire city. The atmosphere becomes electric as millions break their fast together, but accommodations book solid and prices spike. If you can handle the crowds, there's nothing quite like experiencing Ramadan in the Prophet's city. Hajj season (dates vary each year) brings the largest crowds but also the most profound spiritual energy. The city operates at maximum capacity, with every hotel, restaurant, and transport service stretched to its limits. Book everything months in advance if you're coming during this time. Summer in Medina is brutal. Temperatures regularly hit 45°C (113°F), and the combination of heat and humidity makes outdoor walking nearly unbearable. The Saudi government provides air-conditioned walkways to the mosque, but you'll still need serious heat tolerance.
