Mississippi Gulf Coast in October

Great time to visit

October is one of the best months to visit Mississippi Gulf Coast.

All Months

March through May offers the sweet spot — warm days, cool nights, and fewer crowds. Water temperature hits 70°F by April. Hotel rates stay reasonable, and restaurants aren't slammed. Summer brings peak season chaos. June through August sees temperatures in the 90s with oppressive humidity. But the water warms to 85°F, perfect for swimming. Expect crowds, higher prices, and afternoon thunderstorms that clear quickly. Fall might be the coast's best-kept secret. September through November delivers warm water, smaller crowds, and comfortable temperatures. Hurricane season technically runs through November, but most storms miss the Mississippi coast. Winter is mild but unpredictable. December through February sees highs in the 60s, but cold fronts can drop temperatures into the 30s overnight. Many beach activities shut down, but casinos and restaurants stay open. Hotel rates hit rock bottom — sometimes under $60 per night. Avoid Mardi Gras season unless you're here for it. February and early March bring crowds, higher prices, and booked hotels. The coast's Mardi Gras celebrations are more family-friendly than New Orleans, but still draw big crowds.
