New Caledonia in July
Great time to visit
Outstanding weather continues, but French school holidays bring more visitors and higher prices. Still one of the best months despite the increased crowds.

July continues the excellent dry season with cool mornings warming to pleasant afternoons. Trade winds keep things comfortable even when the sun is strongest. Rainfall is minimal and usually just brief passing showers.

All Months
April through November brings New Caledonia's dry season — think 75-85°F days with low humidity and trade winds that keep mosquitoes at bay. This is prime time for diving, with 100-foot visibility common in the lagoon. But here's what the guidebooks don't mention: July and August see an influx of French tourists escaping winter back home, so book accommodations early and expect higher prices. May and September hit the sweet spot — perfect weather with fewer crowds and better deals on hotels. The wet season from December to March isn't necessarily a write-off. Sure, you'll get afternoon thunderstorms and higher humidity, but the rainforest comes alive, waterfalls run full, and hotel rates drop by 30-40%. Cyclone season technically runs November through April, though direct hits are rare. Water temperatures stay warm year-round (75-82°F), so you can dive comfortably in just a 3mm wetsuit even in winter.
