Spring arrives in April when Central Park explodes with cherry blossoms and the city shakes off winter's gray mood. Temperatures hover around 60-70°F, perfect for walking the High Line or browsing the Union Square Greenmarket. Hotel prices stay reasonable before summer tourism kicks in.
Summer brings outdoor concerts in Bryant Park, rooftop bars, and the Shakespeare in the Park lottery. But July and August mean sweltering subway platforms and $400+ hotel rates. The city empties out in August as locals flee to the Hamptons.
Fall is New York's golden season — September through November offers crisp air, changing leaves in Central Park, and the return of Broadway's new shows. October delivers perfect weather for walking across the Brooklyn Bridge or exploring the West Village.
Winter transforms the city into a holiday movie set. The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree draws crowds, but ice skating in Bryant Park feels more authentic. January and February offer the best hotel deals, though you'll bundle up for those long subway waits.
Avoid the week between Christmas and New Year's unless you enjoy Times Square-level crowds everywhere and paying peak prices for everything.
