Good time to visit

The heat starts getting serious in April. Fewer tourists mean better prices, but you'll spend more time indoors during the day.

All Months

November through March gives you the best weather window. Temperatures hover around 25-30°C during the day, dropping to pleasant 15°C at night. The harmattan wind brings dust but also keeps humidity low. This is peak season for the few tourists who make it here, though 'peak' means you might see another foreign visitor at the National Museum. April and May turn brutal. Temperatures hit 45°C regularly, and the air shimmers with heat. Even locals stay indoors during midday. But if you can handle the heat, hotel prices drop and you'll have attractions to yourself. Rainy season runs June through September. Don't let the name fool you – rain comes in short, intense bursts followed by steamy heat. Roads flood temporarily, and mosquitoes multiply. But the countryside turns green, and mango season peaks in July. December brings the coolest weather and clearest skies. It's also when festivals happen and families gather for celebrations. Book accommodation early during this month.
