Nicosia in September

Good time to visit

September marks the return of civilized weather. It's still warm enough for everything but not so hot you'll melt, making this a smart alternative to peak summer.

Weather

September offers relief with temperatures dropping noticeably while staying warm and sunny. Humidity decreases to a more comfortable 60%. The first light rains might appear toward month's end, but mostly dry.

  • Restaurant patios become pleasant again for lunch

All Months

March through May gives you perfect weather - warm days around 22°C, cool evenings, and wildflowers covering the Mesaoria Plain. Easter celebrations in April are spectacular, with processions through both sides of the old city. October and November work just as well. The summer heat breaks, but you still get 25°C days and clear skies. November sees fewer tourists, so restaurant prices drop and you get better service. Summer is brutal. July and August hit 40°C regularly, and the city empties as locals flee to the mountains or coast. If you come then, plan indoor activities during midday and save sightseeing for early morning or evening. Winter stays mild compared to northern Europe - January averages 15°C - but it's the rainy season. December through February sees gray skies and occasional downpours. The upside? Hotel rates drop by half and you get the city to yourself. Avoid Greek Orthodox Easter week (usually April) unless you're here for the celebrations. Everything shuts down, and accommodation prices spike.
