July Tips

  • Book everything 3+ months ahead - this is peak season
  • Hit hiking trails by 7am to beat crowds and afternoon storms
  • Consider midweek stays to save money and avoid weekend chaos

All Months

Summer delivers perfect hiking weather with temps in the 70s and 80s. July and August see the biggest crowds, but also the most reliable weather for high-elevation adventures. Hotel rates peak during these months. Fall foliage season runs late September through mid-October, with peak colors usually hitting the first week of October. This is when North Conway shines brightest, but expect crowds and premium prices. Book accommodations months in advance. Winter transforms the area into a snow sports paradise. December through February brings consistent snow for skiing at Cranmore, Attitash, and nearby Bretton Woods. Just know that mountain weather can be unpredictable. Spring arrives late in the mountains. May still sees snow at higher elevations, but it's a great time for lower-elevation hikes and fewer crowds. Some mountain roads don't fully open until late May. Here's the insider tip: visit in late June or early September for the sweet spot of good weather and manageable crowds.
