Summer gets brutal. July and August regularly hit 100°F with humidity that makes it feel even hotter. If you visit between June and August, plan indoor activities for midday and save outdoor exploration for early morning or evening.
Winter stays relatively mild compared to northern cities, but ice storms can shut things down unexpectedly. January temperatures hover in the 40s, but when weather systems collide over Oklahoma, they create memorable conditions.
Event timing matters too. The Oklahoma State Fair runs late September, bringing crowds and higher hotel rates. Thunder basketball season (October through April) means downtown gets busier on game nights. The Red Earth Festival in June showcases Native American culture but coincides with peak heat.
