  • Carnaval means higher hotel rates and crowded streets
  • Stock up on cash as ATMs get busy during festivals

All Months

December through April gives you the dry season—less rain, more sunshine, but also more crowds and higher prices. January and February hit the sweet spot with perfect weather and manageable tourist numbers. The rainy season from May to November isn't as bad as it sounds. Rain usually hits in late afternoon thunderstorms that clear quickly. You'll get lower hotel rates and fewer tour groups, plus the city looks greener. Just pack an umbrella and plan indoor activities for 3-6 PM. Avoid Easter week if you don't like crowds—the whole country seems to descend on the capital. Same goes for Carnival in February or March, unless you're specifically here for the party. Hotel prices triple and everything books solid. Temperatures stay consistent year-round, hovering around 80-85°F (27-29°C). The humidity hits harder than the heat, especially if you're walking around midday. Plan outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon.
