Perhentian Islands in February
Not the best time
February is still deep in monsoon season. You might find a few places open, but expect soggy conditions and limited activities.
Weather
February continues the monsoon pattern with frequent downpours and choppy seas. Rain typically comes in intense bursts rather than all-day drizzle. The air feels thick and sticky, with humidity rarely dropping below 80%.

February Tips
- •Many resorts remain closed until March
- •Check boat schedules daily as services get canceled frequently
- •The few open places offer rock-bottom prices but limited amenities
All Months
March through September offers the best conditions, with calm seas and 8+ hours of daily sunshine. April and May hit the sweet spot – perfect weather before the July-August crowds arrive. Water visibility peaks during these months, making it prime diving season.
July and August bring Malaysian school holidays and higher prices. Accommodation rates double, and popular dive sites get crowded. But the weather stays consistently good, with minimal rain and light winds.
September marks the tail end of the season. Fewer tourists, lower prices, but afternoon thunderstorms become more common. Still worth it if you can handle some rain.
The islands shut down completely from October through February due to monsoon conditions. Rough seas make boat travel dangerous, and most resorts close their doors. Don't even think about visiting during this period.
Water temperature stays around 28°C year-round, perfect for extended snorkeling sessions. But pack a light wetsuit for diving – you'll get cold after multiple dives.
Book accommodation early for peak season, especially if you want specific dates. Many places only take bookings through their Facebook pages, so plan ahead.
