Phoenix in January

Great time to visit

Peak season for good reason. The weather is absolutely perfect, but you'll pay premium prices and fight crowds everywhere. Still worth it if you can swing the cost.

Weather

January brings Phoenix's most pleasant weather. Daytime temperatures hit the low 20s while nights drop to single digits. You'll get crisp, sunny skies with virtually no humidity.

January Tips

  • Pack layers - mornings can be genuinely cold
  • Book restaurants early during Restaurant Week
  • Phoenix Open week sees hotel prices spike 300%

All Months

October through April is prime time. Daytime temperatures hover in the 70s-80s, perfect for hiking and outdoor dining. Hotel rates peak during these months, especially around spring training (February-March) and major golf tournaments. Winter (December-February) brings the snowbird invasion. Expect crowds at popular hiking trails like Camelback Mountain and higher prices for everything. But the weather is genuinely perfect – clear skies and comfortable temperatures daily. Shoulder seasons (October-November and April) offer the best balance of good weather and reasonable prices. Pool weather extends well into October, and April mornings are ideal for outdoor activities before afternoon heat kicks in. Summer (May-September) is brutal but budget-friendly. Temperatures regularly exceed 110°F, making outdoor activities dangerous during midday. Many locals become nocturnal, hiking at 5 AM and retreating to air conditioning by 10 AM. Resort rates drop 50%+ if you can handle the heat.
