Reykjavik in June

Great time to visit

Peak Reykjavik season begins. The city transforms into a different place entirely - outdoor festivals, midnight sun, and Icelanders actually smiling on the streets.

Weather

June delivers Reykjavik's most pleasant weather - mild temperatures that rarely require heavy jackets, and nearly 20 hours of daylight. Rain still happens, but it's brief summer showers rather than soul-crushing downpours. The sun barely sets.

Events & Festivals

  • Secret Solstice Festival
  • Reykjavik Midsummer Festival

June Tips

  • Independence Day brings massive street parties and fireworks at Arnarhóll
  • Book restaurants well ahead - locals are out celebrating the short summer
  • Bring a sleep mask - the sun barely sets and it messes with your internal clock

All Months

Summer means midnight sun and lupine flowers painting the countryside purple. June through August brings 18-hour days, temperatures around 60°F, and the best hiking conditions. But everyone else knows this too – expect crowds and premium prices. Winter offers Northern Lights from September to March, plus that cozy hygge feeling in steamy cafes. December through February sees just 4 hours of daylight, but the aurora dancing overhead makes up for it. Spring and fall are underrated – fewer tourists, decent weather, and you might still catch the lights in September or April. Just pack layers. Icelandic weather changes faster than a toddler's mood.
