Rovinj in January

Not the best time

January is Rovinj at its most authentic but least comfortable. You'll have the medieval streets to yourself, but half the town shuts down and the weather can be miserable.

Weather

January brings cold, damp weather to Rovinj with frequent rain and occasional snow. The Adriatic wind cuts through the narrow streets, and humidity stays high around 75%. Expect gray skies most days.

January Tips

  • Most restaurants and hotels close for winter break - call ahead to confirm openings
  • Pack waterproof boots for the wet cobblestones in the old town
  • Use this time to visit Pula's Roman amphitheater without crowds - it's just 45 minutes away

All Months

May through September gives you the best weather and longest days. July and August bring crowds and €200+ hotel rates, but also the warmest sea temperatures and outdoor concerts in Tito Square. June and September offer the sweet spot — warm enough for swimming, fewer tourists, and restaurant terraces stay open late. The Rovinj Summer Festival runs July through August with classical concerts in St. Euphemia's Church. Spring arrives early here — April can hit 20°C, though the sea stays chilly until May. Winter is quiet but charming, with many restaurants closed but truffle season in full swing inland.
