Samoa (Savai'i) in March
Not the best time
March sees the wet season starting to ease up on Savai'i, but you're still dealing with daily afternoon storms and muddy conditions. The improving weather makes it slightly more bearable than peak wet season months.
Weather
March marks the tail end of wet season with rain becoming more predictable - usually afternoon thunderstorms rather than all-day deluges. Temperatures stay warm but humidity begins dropping slightly. Trade winds start returning, providing some relief from the sticky conditions.

March Tips
- •Plan outdoor activities for mornings before afternoon storms hit
- •Roads are still muddy so rent a 4WD if exploring inland
- •Mosquitoes are at their worst - bring strong repellent
All Months
May through October delivers Savai'i at its finest. Trade winds keep temperatures around 82°F, rainfall drops to manageable levels, and ocean conditions stay calm enough for reliable ferry service. This dry season coincides with better surfing swells and clearer snorkeling visibility.
June and July represent peak season—book accommodations well ahead since the island only has maybe 200 tourist beds total. Prices jump about 20% during these months, and popular spots like Aganoa Beach see their heaviest crowds (which still means maybe a dozen people).
September offers the sweet spot of great weather without peak pricing. The trade winds still blow strong, keeping bugs manageable, and you'll have beaches almost entirely to yourself. October extends this shoulder season with slightly more rainfall but excellent value.
Avoid November through April unless you don't mind daily downpours and cyclone season anxiety. The wet season brings flooding that can cut off remote beaches for days, and ferry services face regular cancellations. Plus, humidity makes everything feel like a steam bath.
