September through November offers spring weather and fewer crowds, though you might catch some rain. The city feels more alive during these months as locals emerge from winter hibernation. Summer (December through February) gets hot and smoggy, with temperatures reaching 35°C. Many Santiaguinos flee to the coast, leaving the city quieter but more polluted. Winter (June through August) brings rain, smog, and temperatures that rarely break 15°C. The mountains look spectacular covered in snow, but the air quality suffers. Hotel prices drop significantly during winter months. Avoid the first two weeks of February when everything shuts down for vacation season.
