Shimla in August
Not the best time
Peak monsoon means peak inconvenience. Great for budget travelers who don't mind being prisoners to the weather.
Weather
August continues the monsoon intensity with frequent heavy downpours and overcast skies. The air turns humid and muggy, unusual for Shimla. Fog often rolls in, reducing visibility significantly.

- •Indoor activities only - visit museums and covered markets
- •Hotel deals are excellent but verify backup power for frequent outages
All Months
March through June offers the best weather — clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and blooming rhododendrons. This is peak season, so expect crowds and higher prices. May temperatures hover around 25°C during the day, perfect for walking.
September through November brings crisp air and clear mountain views after the monsoon clears. October is ideal — fewer tourists, pleasant weather, and autumn colors in the surrounding forests.
Winter (December-February) brings snow and freezing temperatures. The town looks magical under snow, but many hotels close and transport becomes tricky. Only visit if you're prepared for serious cold.
Avoid July and August — the monsoon brings heavy rain, landslides, and limited visibility. Many outdoor activities shut down, and the famous mountain views disappear behind clouds.
Book accommodation well ahead for any visit between April and June. Hotels fill up, especially during Indian school holidays in May.
