St. Petersburg in February
Not the best time
Still freezing, still dark, but at least there's Maslenitsa to brighten things up. February is only worth it if you're chasing rock-bottom prices and don't mind arctic conditions.
Weather
February stays brutally cold but daylight creeps back - you'll get about 8 hours of sun. The city remains locked in winter's grip with snow and ice everywhere, though some days warm up just enough to create slushy sidewalks.

All Months
May through September offers the best weather and longest days. White Nights peak in June – the sun barely sets and the whole city celebrates. Hotels cost double but the energy is infectious. July and August bring crowds and higher prices but also outdoor festivals and river cruises. September delivers perfect weather with fewer tourists and golden autumn colors. Winter is harsh but magical – snow transforms the palaces into fairy tale settings. The Mariinsky Theatre's ballet season runs October through May. Just pack serious winter gear; temperatures drop to -10°C regularly. April and October are shoulder seasons with decent weather and reasonable prices, though some outdoor attractions close.
