Syracuse in February
Not the best time
February is marginally better than January, which isn't saying much. Come for the basketball atmosphere or don't come at all.
Weather
February continues the winter punishment with more snow and bone-chilling temperatures. Lake-effect storms roll in off Lake Ontario, dumping impressive amounts of snow that locals treat like a minor inconvenience.

All Months
April through June and September through October offer the sweet spot. Temperatures hover around 22-26°C, perfect for exploring ruins without melting. Spring brings wildflowers to the archaeological sites, while fall delivers calm seas ideal for swimming at nearby beaches. July and August see temperatures soar above 35°C, making afternoon sightseeing miserable. But summer evenings on Ortygia are magical - restaurants stay open until midnight and the harbor breeze provides relief. Winter (December-February) brings occasional rain and cooler temperatures around 15°C, but also fewer crowds and lower hotel prices. The Greek theater season runs May through July, with performances in the original 5th-century amphitheater. Book tickets early - watching Aeschylus where it premiered 2,500 years ago doesn't happen often.
