Tours in February

Not the best time

February feels like winter's last stand in Tours, with cold rain and limited château hours. But the wine cellars stay warm, and you'll find excellent deals on accommodations.

Weather

February stays cold but starts showing hints of spring with slightly warmer afternoons. Morning frost is still common, and the Loire Valley gets plenty of rain mixed with occasional sleet. Humidity remains high, making the 8-degree days feel colder than they are.

February Tips

  • Book château visits in advance as many still operate on winter schedules
  • Indoor wine tastings in Vouvray and Chinon are perfect for this weather
  • February hotel rates are still at their lowest before spring travelers arrive

All Months

April through June brings perfect château weather. Gardens bloom, crowds stay manageable, and you can bike between castles without sweating through your shirt. May hits the sweet spot - warm days, cool evenings, everything open. September and October deliver stunning colors along the Loire. Harvest season means wine tastings everywhere, plus you'll catch the last warm days before winter. Hotel prices drop after school starts. Summer gets packed and hot. Château parking lots turn into furnaces, and you'll wait 45 minutes to tour Chambord. But longer days mean more time for cycling, and every restaurant terrace stays open late. Winter closes many châteaux completely. Skip December through March unless you're here for Christmas markets in the old town.
