Spring brings cherry blossoms to nearby Osaka Castle Park, just a 15-minute walk from Umeda. The weather stays mild and department store rooftops open beer gardens. Summer gets oppressively humid, but the underground shopping networks provide air-conditioned relief. Fall delivers perfect weather and autumn illuminations that light up the Sky Building and surrounding towers. Winter stays relatively mild compared to Tokyo, though rain increases. Avoid Golden Week in early May and Obon in mid-August when crowds swell and hotel prices double. Weekends see the heaviest shopping traffic, but also the best restaurant specials and department store sales.
