Berat in February

Not the best time

February offers rock-bottom prices and empty streets in the old quarters. The weather remains challenging though, and you'll find fewer dining options open in the evening.

Weather

February remains cold with occasional snow dusting the red-tiled roofs of Mangalem and Gorica neighborhoods. Rain is frequent but lighter than January. Mornings start below freezing but afternoons warm slightly.

February Tips

  • Many museums and cafés have limited winter hours - check before visiting
  • Hotel prices are at their lowest, but selection is limited
  • The climb to Berat Castle is less crowded but potentially icy

All Months

April through June gives you perfect weather without the crowds. Temperatures sit around 20-25°C, wildflowers bloom in the castle grounds, and restaurant terraces open for the season. September and October are equally lovely – warm days, cool evenings, and the grape harvest season at local wineries. July and August get hot (30°C+) and bring the most tourists, but evening temperatures are pleasant for wandering the historic streets. Winter can be magical with snow on the castle walls, but many restaurants close and weather is unpredictable. The Osum River sometimes floods in heavy rains, affecting the lower parts of town. Here's the insider tip: visit during Orthodox Easter (dates vary) to see the castle church celebrations, but book accommodation early as Albanian families return home for the holiday.
