All Months
April through September is peak season, when the dry season brings clear skies and comfortable temperatures. May and June are perfect — warm days around 25°C and cool nights around 15°C. The air gets dry enough that your lips will crack, but the weather is ideal for walking around the monuments.
Avoid December through March if possible. The rainy season brings afternoon thunderstorms that can flood streets and make sightseeing miserable. January is the worst — hot, humid, and wet. Plus, this is when Congress is in recess, so the city feels even more deserted than usual.
If you must visit during the wet season, plan indoor activities for afternoons and get out early in the morning. The storms usually pass quickly, but they're intense.
Weekends see an exodus of residents to beach towns, making the city feel like a ghost town. But this also means shorter lines at museums and easier restaurant reservations.
