Bruny Island in August
Not the best time
August remains challenging with winter weather still dominant. But you might catch glimpses of the island's beauty between the rain clouds.
Weather
Still firmly in winter's grip with cold temperatures and frequent rain. However, days start getting slightly longer and occasional clear days hint at spring's eventual arrival.

August Tips
- •Some businesses start reopening with limited hours
- •Whale watching season begins for the hardy
- •Pack for all weather conditions in a single day
All Months
Summer (December-February) brings the warmest weather and longest days – sunset doesn't happen until after 8pm in January. But it's also the busiest time with ferry queues and booked-out accommodation. Water temperatures peak around 18°C, making swimming actually pleasant. Autumn (March-May) might be the sweet spot. Crowds thin out after Easter, but weather stays mild through April. You'll get better wildlife viewing as animals become more active in cooler temperatures. Winter (June-August) means shorter days and temperatures around 12°C, but it's whale migration season. Southern right whales pass close to shore, and you might spot them from the cliffs without needing a boat tour. Spring (September-November) brings wildflowers and nesting seabirds, but weather can be unpredictable. Pack layers regardless of season – island weather changes fast, and it's always windier than the mainland.
