Bruny Island in June
Not the best time
June is Bruny's least appealing month with cold, wet weather and limited services. Only consider if you love dramatic winter coastlines and don't mind indoor activities.
Weather
Full winter sets in with cold, wet conditions dominating. Days are short and often overcast with persistent drizzle. Strong winds from the Southern Ocean make it feel even colder.

All Months
Summer (December-February) brings the warmest weather and longest days – sunset doesn't happen until after 8pm in January. But it's also the busiest time with ferry queues and booked-out accommodation. Water temperatures peak around 18°C, making swimming actually pleasant. Autumn (March-May) might be the sweet spot. Crowds thin out after Easter, but weather stays mild through April. You'll get better wildlife viewing as animals become more active in cooler temperatures. Winter (June-August) means shorter days and temperatures around 12°C, but it's whale migration season. Southern right whales pass close to shore, and you might spot them from the cliffs without needing a boat tour. Spring (September-November) brings wildflowers and nesting seabirds, but weather can be unpredictable. Pack layers regardless of season – island weather changes fast, and it's always windier than the mainland.
