Ende in March

Good time to visit

March offers a glimpse of Ende's potential as the wet season winds down. While still rainy, the improving conditions make it worth considering if you can handle some weather unpredictability.

Weather

March marks the transition out of wet season with rainfall starting to decrease noticeably. Humidity remains high but becomes more tolerable as sunny periods stretch longer. You'll still see afternoon showers but not the all-day soaking of previous months.

March Tips

  • This is when locals start planning outdoor activities again - follow their lead
  • Roads to remote areas may still be muddy from wet season damage
  • Pack layers as mornings can be surprisingly cool before heating up

All Months

Ende's dry season runs April through September, making it the clear winner for travel timing. May and June offer the sweet spot with minimal rain and comfortable temperatures around 27°C. July and August bring more crowds to Kelimutu but still manageable numbers compared to Bali. September can be windy but perfect for boat trips to Komodo. Avoid October through March when heavy rains turn Kelimutu roads into muddy nightmares and flight delays become common. The wet season also means cloudy mornings at the crater lakes, defeating the purpose of that 4 AM wake-up call. Ende's location near the equator means temperatures stay consistent year-round, but humidity spikes during rainy months. Book accommodations well ahead for July and August when Indonesian families take school holidays. April offers the best value with dry weather and lower prices.
