Hamburg in February
Not the best time
Still pretty grim weather-wise, but the DOM festival adds some life to the city. February works if you're chasing winter solitude and don't mind layers.
Weather
February stays cold but daylight starts creeping back in. Still plenty of rain and occasional snow, with that persistent North Sea chill. Gray dominates the sky most days.

All Months
May through September gives you Hamburg's best weather and longest days. Summer brings temperatures around 20-25°C and daylight until 10pm – perfect for canal walks and beer garden sessions.
July means festival season. The Altonale street festival takes over the Altona district with live music, food trucks, and art installations. The Hamburg DOM funfair runs three times yearly, but summer offers the most pleasant experience.
September delivers ideal conditions without peak crowds. The weather stays warm but tourists thin out after school holidays end. Hotel prices drop 20-30% compared to July.
Winter Hamburg has its charm – Christmas markets fill Rathausmarkt and Mönckebergstraße with Glühwein stands and handcrafted gifts. But expect grey skies, 4°C temperatures, and darkness by 4pm. The upside? Cheaper accommodation and cozy pub sessions.
Avoid March and November. These shoulder months bring unpredictable weather, frequent rain, and limited daylight without winter's festive atmosphere.
